Benedict Owusu Yankyera is a Regulatory Officer, Medical Herbalist and a Public Health Practitioner. As a Regulatory Officer under the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Practice Council of Ghana (TMPC) he is in touch with over five hundred traditional and alternative medicine practitioners in the Eastern Region of Ghana. His rare expertise in medical herbalism and public health allows him to effectively uphold the mandate of the TMPC in promoting, controlling, and regulating the practice of traditional medicine in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
As a strong advocate in the development of traditional medicine (TM), he ensures acceptable standards in traditional medicine in the interest of public health. Benedict is keen on the care and sustainability of our common environment. He encourages cultivation of medicinal plantsamong TM practitioners and works to unravel a clear understanding of TM practice through ethnobotanical research works. As a young professional, Benedict was the only Ghanaian selected from over 2000 applicants to participate in an integration of health professionals programme for young West Africans at the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and from this he understands the enormous health challenges within our sub-region.
Benedict loves the sustainability of the environment and He is credited with the new environmental look of WAHO. His love for the environment earned him an award as the best student in environmental health during his post graduate studies in University of Ghana. He also holds a bachelor of science in herbal medicine from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He had his secondary school education at Opoku Ware School in Kumasi- Ghana.
